The special examination will serve as a preventive measure so that cases like Emily's won't happen again. Acquiring a pharmacy technician certification is what passing a competency test means. Nationally-recognized certifying organizations are in essence giving examinations that measure the candidate's aptitude on matters relating to pharmacy work. It isn't easy passing a certification exam that's why you need to have the knowledge on how to be a good technician.
Most people undergo formal training programs to help them prepare for the certification examination. This may be campus based or through distance education or online courses. But the truth is most people prefer to just rely on the knowledge they have acquired from their work experience in the pharmacy. If you have not been exposed to pharmacy work then it's highly recommended that you enroll yourself in a program that will expose you to the job you will soon be doing. One way of limiting medication errors is for all technicians to be properly trained and certified in order for them to perform their duties competently.

Classroom component includes lessons in pharmacology, pharmacy law and ethics, pharmaceutical terminology, and various aspect of pharmacy work. Exposure to the exact working environment will also be part of your curriculum. Majority of the pharmacy technician works in a pharmacy; this is also where you will be having your hands on exercises. Completing the training program will give you an edge in passing the pharmacy technician certification as well as making you more preferred by employers. That is if you got yourself into a training that is up to the world's standards.

Other than that, they are also expected to perform other work in the pharmacy. There aren't any methods today that will completely eliminate medication errors but the risks of committing them can be reduced. This will more likely happen if all pharmacy technicians have undergone accredited training programs and have their own pharmacy technician certification. Hopefully in the near future all States will require pharmacy technicians to be well trained and certified to ensure the quality of service we get from hospitals and pharmacies.
